High-Tech Exchange Panel Discussion

Who pays for software: new and old software business models - What's next?
A panel discussion on the state of the software business

Thursday, May 11th
from 6pm
At Bingham McCutchen,
1900 University Avenue
East Palo Alto, CA 94303
See Directions

Two years ago, the FACCSF organized a panel discussion titled "Is Software dead?" with George Kadifa, CEO of Corio , Marc Benioff, CEO of salesforce.com, Heinz Ulrich Roggenkemper, executive VP at SAP, Brian Behlendorf, CTO of CollabNet, and Director, of the Apache Software Foundation, and Donna Boyer, VP Product Management at DigitalThink Inc.

Corio has been acquired by IBM.
salesforce.com is now a driving force in on-demand enterprise software, and lead giants like SAP to launch competing on-line CRM offerings. Open source is everywhere. Software delivered as a service is --at last-- a viable business model. We have seen renewed dynamism in the software industry over the last two years, albeit not for every software company. New channels, new business models have reshaped the business.

In that context, we are asking the questions :
. What is a software company today?
. What's next for software as a service?
. How far will open source go  to reshape the industry?
. Is the traditional licensed based software business dead?
. What is the value of intellectual property in this new landscape? . Does digital rights management have a role to play? . Web 2.0 is all about software: fad or must-have? . How will software  continue to be this incredible melting pot for technical and business innovation?
. What is the future of software?

Join an exceptional group of software executives who will :
. share their vision of the current state and future of the software business,
. answers your questions to understand what is at stake in the industry

The event will start with a short presentation of each panelist's opinion on the state and future of software, and will be followed by an hour of discussions and questions and answers with the audience.
